Sun City West

The community-owned Sun City West is situated just four miles from Sun City, the Del Webb development that pioneered active adult living. Like the original, Sun City West is closed to anyone under the age of 18, and each household must have one member who is at least 55 years old.

Golf, swimming, bowling and tennis are among the activities the 31,000 residents can enjoy for an annual cost of less than $200, plus small fees for golf and bowling. Sun City West has seven golf courses and four recreation centers. The development’s Hillcrest Golf Course has been host to a number of major golf tournaments, in conjunction with organizations such as the PGA, LPGA and Senior PGA. ASU’s Sundome Center for Performing Arts in Sun City is the largest single-floor theater in the world with a seating capacity of over 7,000.

The community also has its own medical center, the Del E. Webb Memorial Hospital. Maricopa County supplies public services for the unincorporated community and a strong volunteer force supplements county efforts.

Like Sun City, Sun City West offers a wide range of housing options and prices. Buyers can choose large or small lots or lots on a golf course. Some homes are in areas with neighborhood associations that handle landscaping and other home-related services for a monthly fee.

Single-family homes range in size from 920-square feet to 3,500+ square feet. Buyers will pay $110,000 to over $500,000 for a Sun City home. Another freestanding option is a casita. These are homes with attached back yard walls and 1,000 to 1,450 square feet of living space. Casita prices start around $110,000 and go up to $150,000.

Attached housing includes duplexes and garden apartments (several attached side-by-side units). Duplexes offer up to 2,000 plus square feet of space and will run from $110,000 up to $200,000. Sun City garden apartments are between 700 square feet and 1,400 square feet. Price tags start at $70,000 and go up to $125,000.
