Neighbors Say "NO" to Car Dealerships on Phoenix Property

Many Arizona homeowners have chosen to live in Northwest Phoenix because it is “a quiet desert retreat with lots of open space and not so much city noise.” But all of that may change as “plans to bring an 80-acre auto mall to Dove Valley Road near Interstate 17” are being considered.

Neighbors are fighting developers tooth and nail over development of the Phoenix property that would bring 10 car dealerships to the area. Developers have tried to calm neighbors by promising that the Phoenix property on which the car lots will be developed will be “buffered by a wash and surrounded by about 900 acres of land slated for retail development, office space and multifamily homes that can be as high as four stories.”

Since the promise hasn’t calmed fears, Westcore, the development company, is now scheduling community meetings to spread the word about the roadway improvements that would come with development of the Phoenix property. Developers would “help ease traffic congestion” by extending North Valley Parkway to Carefree Highway and connecting Dove Valley Road to North Valley Parkway. If the Phoenix property development is approved, “city planners, who are in favor of the project, said they would likely expedite a Dove Valley Road interchange at I-17.”

Yet residents worry that the car dealerships’ blow-up dolls, floor lights and streamers are going to bring down their Phoenix property values.
